Second Circular

We are pleased to inform you that Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists (ISAB) and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi India are jointly organizing an International Conference on Role of Biomolecules in Food Security and Health Improvement during February 17-20, 2010 at the campus of Banaras Hindu University along with XI Silver Jubilee Convention of the Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists. The first circular regarding the conference was issued in March 2009, which has evoked an encouraging response from a large number of scientists relating to various theme areas of the conference.

Biomolecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes, lipids, fatty acids, amino acids, nucleic acids, vitamins are key components which determine quality and yield of food crops. A deep understanding of metabolic networks associated with synthesis of these biomolecules and their manipulation in target crops using biotechnological advancements have helped many countries to achieve food security and even to become food exporters. But it is hard to predict whether world crop production is on the track to meet the needs of the future population.  Researchers need to devise genetically improved and nutritionally superior varieties of all important food crops like cereals, pulses, oilseeds, etc. with desired quality attributes combined with increased yields to achieve food security for feeding the growing population.

Besides plant system, these biomolecules are equally involved in the growth and development of human body and maintenance of human health. An understanding of their metabolism in human system will help in their manipulation to improve the health of mankind. This Conference is going to be a unique one in the sense that it is going to address the role of biomolecules in both food production as well as human health improvement. There will be an opportunity to the scientists associated with the improvement of both plants and humans to interact and develop useful recommendations.

This second and final circular gives details of various programmes including technical sessions, call for abstract, important dates and deadlines etc. In this conference, we hope for the active participation of scientists and industrialists, especially young scientists and students from all over the world.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of ISAB and the Organising Committee, we cordially invite you to participate in the deliberations of the conference. We hope that your participation would provide a platform for fruitful discussions and useful recommendations.

We look forward to welcoming you at Varanasi, India in February 2010.

With best wishes,
